The 360 area code belongs to the western Washington state, omitting the locations of Seattle and Tacoma. It also covers the cities of Bellingham, Vancouver, and Olympia; just overlapping the 564 area code, which comprises the same zone.

This code is located in the Pacific Time Zone. Besides, it encloses most parts of the western territory, outside the urban sector of King and Pierce counties and Bainbridge Island; counties that used to belong to the 206 area code, nowadays owned metropolitan Seattle

Most of the residents of Washington State depend and rely on this telephonic prefix. As a result, this area disposes of a solid network to satisfy the needs of its inhabitants.

1. History

The 360 area code began to operate on January 15, 1995. It was created from a separation of the 206 area code, which is accustomed to cover the full zone. Due to the importance of the region, the government decided to set up another prefix to avoid saturation.

On July 29, 2017, a new code started running: the 564 area code, established as an overlay plan for codes 206, 253, 425, and 360 respectively. This code was suggested in 1999 and approved in 2000, but it was not applied until 2017.

The arrival of the prefix 564 became a great assist for Washington's western territory. Consequently, it allowed different users from the same area to possess the same seven-digit phone number with distinct codification. That’s the reason why the city of Seattle has been one of the few big cities with this seven-digit functioning.

At the moment, there’s no intention for a new area code being developed; but, considering the population increase in almost all the American states, probably, the proposal for another prefix for the following years will become normal as it happened before.

2. Location

Washington State is located in the Pacific Northwest territory of the United States, bordered by the Canadian province of British Columbia, the States of OregonIdaho, and the Pacific Ocean to the west of the region.

The prefix 360 encompasses more than 50 cities and communities and more than 20 counties, including King, Snohomish, Pierce, and Clark.

On the other hand, Seattle, the largest city located in western Washington State, is incorporated into the prefix 206, which also overlays area code 564. Thanks to the existent of several adjacent numbers the region doesn’t suffer saturation risk.

Adjacent codes

As abovementioned, western Washington State possesses the 564 area code, which overlays not only the 360 but also other prefixes so that the region has other several codes.

The first one is the 206, owned by the city of Seattle. The 236 and 778 belong to the area of Vancouver. On the other hand, the 253, which covers the area of Tacoma along with the 425 of Bellevue. And the 509, which covers the eastern portion of Washington State.
